Sunday, June 21st, 2009Sometime ago a man came into our office, he had been in an accident with his two sons. Distraught and discouraged, the man said he was hit by a drunk driver on a county road; he was severely hurt including both his sons. The eldest son was 14 and had his jaw split wide open, this happened from hitting the dashboard and he would need plastic surgery to reduce the scaring so he wouldn’t look disfigured. His younger son was only 6 years old and had a v-shaped cut on scalp; it looked as if his scalp was ripped off then sewed back on. The father was in tears because he didn’t know how he was to pay for all the medical bills, past and future.
After investigating the case, both the driver and the passenger of the car that hit them, had been arrested. The driver was charged with drunk driving! Our initial response from the insurance company was that they would not cover the accident because the driver was not listed under his mother’s insurance policy. We then filed suit, this process took some time but when the court date was getting close, the insurance company made an offer. The offer was absurd, so we refused. We then received a call the day before we were to appear in court. Yes, it was the insurance agent for the defendant saying that they wanted to settle and ask for our price. The father and his two sons were on their way back to a normal life again. It pays to have the right team on your side.
