Nursing home neglect

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Elder neglect is the failure of a caregiver to take care of the physical, medical, or emotional needs of an elderly person. Such abuse may result from inadequate training or insufficient staffing. However, the facility operator is responsible for providing adequate care for residents. Poor training or insufficient staffing is not a defense against charges of elder abuse or negligence. Evidence of elder neglect or abuse in nursing homes may include bedsores, ulcers, fractures, malnutrition, dehydration, and unexplained bruises and injuries.
