All over the internet and the news, stories of “Zombie” attacks across the country are surfacing. One man was killed by police while chewing off another man’s face. A woman in Texas kills her baby and eats the baby’s brains. Another young man from Florida kills and eats his roommate.
A couple of years ago if you would have called your friend and told them that you just ate a sandwich, there would have been dead silence followed by… “was that it?” Today in the world of twitterverse, a person would tweet that they just ate a sandwich, and then 2 minutes later tweet that they ate a bag of chips. Each day 210 million drivers take the road in the United States, and each one of these drivers is putting their faith and trust in automobile manufacturers. When it comes to cyclists and automobiles, sharing the road can sometimes be a daunting task. While cyclist fatalities aren’t that common, they do sometimes happen. Such was the unfortunate case in Amarillo, Texas this past week when David and Anna Isom were both struck from behind by a motorist while on a late afternoon ride. Sadly, David was pronounced dead at the scene and Anna was taken to the hospital in critical condition. (more…)

The National Safety Council provides some sobering statistics on teen car accidents. According to the NSC, young drivers are involved in a staggering six million collisions every year.
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of teen deaths, accounting for 38% of all teen fatalities in the U.S. In fact, every day, more than 10 drivers in the 15 to 20 age group are killed in car accidents. An additional 745 are injured.

As per the Texas department of transporation the following is a result of persons being over the legal limit causing fatal injuries. Info taken from the 2009 press release as stated, of 835 fatal accidents 412 were .080% and over the legal limit. A controversy of speed limits recently hit the Texas court system. While Texas lawmakers put forth effort to increase speed limits on future highways, others claim that the rise in speed will concurrently raise accident and fatality rates. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic deaths dropped in 2010 and are averaging a record low since 1949.
